45 Years Of Service

St. Aidan’s Society was founded in 1973 by the Honourable Judge Harry Aime. The Society was founded after Judge Aime recognized a gap in services in the community as numerous children were being sent to live out of their home community. He envisioned a Society that could help children and families while allowing these children, who could not remain in the family home, to at least remain in their community. With this, St. Aidan’s House Society was formed and in 1973 a group home was opened.

In 1994 St. Aidan’s House Society expanded its’ service provision to include treatment foster care services. Over the years the scope of the foster care program has changed however the high level of service has been maintained.

In 2004 St. Aidan’s House Society was asked to take on a Family Visitation Program. This program continued to be successfully delivered by the Agency until 2007.

In 2012, the Board and staff of St. Aidan’s Society participated in a visioning workshop. The strategic direction of the agency was examined and the capabilities, resources, and constraints assessed. The future success of the agency was established through motivation and consensus building with the Board of Directors and agency staff. Most importantly, service provision opportunities were identified and an opportunity for growth and change recognized.

In 2013 a strategic path for the expansion of St. Aidan’s Society, which would leverage but not limit St. Aidan’s historic strength within child and family services, was accepted by the Board of Directors. Recognizing the increased need for Community connectedness the Community Projects portfolio was created and the McMurray All Connected (MAC) Community Calendar was launched. This, together with the revived current emphasis on the social/shared profit sector nationally and locally, positions an expanded St. Aidan’s right at the interface of current social need and urgency. In 2014 the St. Aidan’s Board of Directors voted unanimously to shift to providing services to seniors after fulfilling the terms of the existing contract with Children’s Services. Funding applications were submitted and approved and on April 1, 2015, an expanded staff team commenced service delivery on a Senior Advocate Program.
Those of us at St. Aidan’s Society realize that we need to continually look towards our vision for the future. We are a small organization, our present and future aims are always the wellness of individuals and the betterment of the community.
