How do we do this?

We recruit, screen, and match volunteers with seniors who need support. This process ensures a good fit, promotes independence, and encourages meaningful social connections.

Screening

To prioritize the safety and well-being of our seniors, volunteers must complete a criminal record check, a vulnerable sector check, a 3-year driver’s abstract, and provide proof of valid insurance. Any costs associated with these checks are reimbursed once a volunteer match is made. Volunteers will also need to provide two references and complete an application form. While the screening process may take some time, it ensures a safe and supportive environment for everyone involved.

Matching

Volunteers are carefully matched with seniors based on personality, availability, and shared interests. Whether you can give one hour a week or more, there is a senior who would benefit from your time.

We also offer one-time volunteer opportunities and group/team initiatives. If you're interested in these options, please get in touch for more details.

Training

Understanding the aging process and related issues is essential to ensuring a rewarding experience for both volunteers and seniors. We provide training to prepare volunteers for their role, and we actively incorporate volunteer feedback into future training sessions.

Ongoing support

Our full-time Volunteer Coordinator is available to offer guidance, celebrate your successes, and help navigate any challenges that may arise. Volunteering is a meaningful journey and we’re here to support you every step of the way.

Volunteers play a vital role in helping seniors stay connected to their community. They offer support with everyday tasks such as grocery shopping, attending medical appointments, and navigating daily challenges. Just as importantly, they create space for conversation, engagement, and shared activities that enrich lives.

By bridging the gap between seniors and their community, the Volunteer Program promotes independence, reduces social isolation, and ensures older adults feel valued and supported. Volunteers are the heart of this initiative, making a lasting difference through their time, dedication, and kindness. Together, we are creating a stronger, more connected community for everyone.
