Allows senior homeowners, 65 years of age and older, to finance home repairs and adaptations through a low-interest home equity loan with the Government of Alberta. Under SHARP, a minimum home equity loan of $500 to a maximum of $40,000 may be available to seniors with an annual total income of $75,000 or less and who have a minimum of 25% home equity in their primary residence. SHARP also includes a grant component for low-income seniors who do not qualify for a loan, due to insufficient home equity, or for mobile home owners who did not own their land. The grant is limited to basic and essential home repairs and adaptations.

Allows senior homeowners to defer all or part of their annual property tax through a low-interest home equity loan with the Government of Alberta. Seniors have the option to defer their property taxes for up to 10 years at a time. The program pays up to the full amount of the property taxes on a senior’s behalf and the senior homeowner repays the loan including the interest when the home is sold or sooner if they choose. This program is not income-based.

On the last Thursday of each month seniors 65+ are eligible for a 20% discount on Seniors Day. Discount applies to all regular-priced merchandise, excludes prescriptions and gift cards. (must have a Shoppers Optimum card)
Available to seniors in the community aged 65+. Student and community volunteers will shovel personal driveways and sidewalks. Priority will be given to seniors with less social supports and resources available to them. If you are interested in joining the program, a service request can be filled out online or by contacting Melissa directly. Processing times typically take two to three weeks. |
Some Other Solutions is a Crisis Prevention Centre that supports individuals who are experiencing stress, emotional distress, grief, loneliness, or suicidal thoughts. SOS will empower individuals of all ages and backgrounds to find the tools and resources needed. Information and Referral Program

Our Special Mobility Assistance Required Transportation (SMART Bus) service is available by appointment to seniors (65 years or older) and those with mobility issues that prevent or severely restrict their use of conventional bus service.
The SMART Bus travels to Anzac on Wednesdays and Janvier on Thursdays. There is a pick-up and drop-off once a day. You can book your trip by calling 780-743-7909. You may suggest the time.
All SMART buses are equipped with wheelchair lifts.

Seniors Outreach Program: Outreach workers providing support to older adults 60+ in Fort McMurray through an assessment process and assistance with referrals to ensure all needs are being met to help you remain independent in your home and enhance your quality of life.
Volunteer Program: Community members are matched with local Seniors 65+ that may need assistance with things like grocery shopping, transportation to medical appointments, friendly visiting, or phone calls. Street Connect offers a wide range of services to homeless individuals. The team works to support the needs of the homeless population, to reduce the stigma and offer compassionate, empathetic and reliable care. The multidisciplinary team is comprised of a nurse practitioner, registered nurse, registered psychiatric nurse, social worker, Indigenous liaison, recovery worker and administrative support. The team’s mission is to provide a holistic approach which ensures we partner with individuals and support them to live more independently and reduce their risk of becoming seriously ill or help them manage chronic conditions. Primary care, mental health support, addictions support, sexual health education, self-harm reduction and pregnancy testing are among the services.
